Congratulations to 4th grade teacher Angela Sims, Teacher of the Year for Innovative Learning Academy!
Mrs. Sims currently teaches Kindergarten at the Innovative Learning Academy @Elizabeth Smith Elementary in Mansfield, TX and she was “born to teach”. Teaching is in her blood, literally. Her mother and father were teachers. She married into a family of teachers. One of her daughters is a teacher. She has been nurtured and influenced by educators her entire life. And although she has always known she was meant to teach it is not what she has always done.
After graduating from Florida Memorial University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1990, she worked her way up to management for a top communications company, but something was missing. In 2006, her family moved from Florida to Texas, and it was then that she made the decision to pursue her first love. She became a substitute teacher and then worked as the School Secretary at Elizabeth Smith Elementary School while obtaining her alternative certification through ACT-Dallas. In 2007, she left Smith to teach first grade in Fort Worth ISD. She was blessed to be able to return in 2009 and has since taught fourth grade, second grade, and for the past 7 years the best grade of them all, Kindergarten! When Mrs. Sims is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her family and even tutors at a local learning center.
“The joy I’ve felt over the past 14 years from helping my students grow and develop academically and socially is priceless. Teaching is not just my passion; it is my purpose.”
ILA@ESE is very proud to have Mrs. Sims in our Stallion Family!
